Do an internet search for suitable host organisations.
Types of suitable host organisations for your first 80 hours are:
- Aged care facilities- ‘My aged care’- website- https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/service-finder/help-at-home- Some of these ‘Service providers’ for My Aged Care offer nursing care in the home or are aged care facilities. On here you can search by putting your post code in, press the 'nursing' option then 'search'. It will then come up with a list of aged care facilities in your post code area. Ring up the organisations on the ‘My aged Care Website’ and get a name of someone who deals with volunteers or student placements.
These may be better for your 2nd 80 hours as they are more emergency based experiences:
- Event Medical Services
- Hospitals (private) A&E Departments
- GP surgeries
- Blood donor Centres
- Theme parks- with a First aid/Occupational Health team- E.g. Dreamworld/ Australia zoo
Do not contact the AMBULANCE SERVICE – THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT OUR STUDENTS AS THEY ARE AFFILIATED ONLY WITH THE UNIVERSITIES.
